"F**k Joe Schoen": Giants fans lose their minds over Saquon Barkley’s debut as Micah Parsons pushes for investigation

The Philadelphia Eagles' decision to land star free agent Saquon Barkley in the offseason paid incredible dividends in their season-opener against the Green Bay Packers in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The former New York Giants running back had a stunning debut for his new team as he registered two rushing and one receiving touchdown in a masterful display. Dallas Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons was among those left astonished by his performance. He jokingly claimed that the Giants should be investigated for letting Barkley leave for nothing and join the Eagles.

While the pass rusher and Cowboys fans watched in dismay as their division rivals' latest weapon on offense had a night to remember, Giants supporters had a meltdown on social media. They voiced their frustration at the front office's decision to let Barkley leave and did not mince words in their criticism of general manager Joe Schoen:

Few Giants fans had a different take on Barkley's stellar debut for the Eagles:

"We Giants fans should be happy for Saquon. Nothing screams immaturity like rooting against your ex. Personally I’m happy for him," Wrote @elishasurillo.
"Happy for Saquon special player he deserved to be on these stages," claimed @starrtraak.
"I’m happy for Saquon Barkley. This is how you were always supposed to play. The Giants failed you in so many ways. I wish you were a Giant for life," opined @Turnpike_Tony.
"Happy for Saquon but I just wish it was anybody besides that eagles," remarked @narwhaalbtw.

Why did the Giants let Saquon Barkley go?

Saquon Barkley's magnificent debut for the Eagles prompted fans to question on social media why the Giants let the running back leave as a free agent. In the offseason, an episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks" gave an insight into his exit from the team.

General manager Joe Schoen asked Barkley to seek offers and allow the Giants to match. After the running back's agent informed him that the Eagles offered his client a three-year, $37.5 million contract, Schoen responded that New York wouldn't match it, paving the way for Barkley to sign with Philadelphia.

After the episode aired, Schoen explained in an interview with Fox Sports' Peter Schrager that the veteran running back was a victim of the team's salary cap limitations.

"Where our roster is, the different needs that we had and how we're going to allocate our funds that we had, we had to make a difficult decision. And we wish Saquon nothing but the best," Schoen told Schrager.

If Saquon Barkley's debut is a sign of things to come, the Giants front office will likely wish it could turn back the clock and match the offer.
