New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones returned to the field on Saturday against the Houston Texans in the Giants' second pre-season game. In Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders last season, Jones tore his ACL, which sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
In his first action back in an NFL game, Jones did alright, except for two costly plays. In the first half, Jones completed 11-of-18 passes for 138 yards, no touchdowns, and a pair of interceptions. One of the interceptions resulted in a pick-six for Texans safety Jalen Pitre.

Before the start of last season, the Giants gave Jones a four-year, $160 million contract that many thought wasn't deserving. At the same time, they failed to reach a long-term extension with running back Saquon Barkley, whom they franchise-tagged and let walk in free agency the following off-season.
Fans on social media reminded Giants fans that the team chose to prioritize Jones over Barkley while he continues to struggle.
Here's how fans reacted:
"reminder that Daniel Jones is on a 4 year 160m contract," one fan said.
"Everyone who was in on the decision to pay Daniel Jones over Saquon Barkley needs to be fired," one person said.
"Lolololololo saquon woulda prevented this," one fan said.
While some fans took the opportunity to remind others that the Giants chose to prioritize retaining Jones over Barkley, other fans pointed out how Jones looks back to being in mid-season form.
Jones has struggled in his career, going 22-36-1 as a starting quarterback.
"Mid season form Daniel Jones," one person said.
"Ladies and gentlemen, Daniel Jones," one person wrote.
"impressive how quickly daniel jones has gotten to mid season form," one fan said.
Daniel Jones could be cut by the New York Giants after this season
Though he is playing in the second year of his four-year $160 million contract, Daniel Jones could be out of New York after this season.
If Jones is released before a post-June 1st designation, New York will incur $22.21 million in dead money, which is less than his $41.605 million cap hit ($19.395 million in savings). So, realistically, they can afford to let him go if he underperforms this season.
Before his injury last season, Jones was struggling. He went 1-5 as a starter in six games while throwing for under 1,000 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions. He had a career-low 70.5 passer rating.
Jones needs to make the New York Giants a winning team again to have a good chance of returning to the team for another season. A playoff appearance could be enough for him to keep his job, but that isn't certain.
