In an ideal world, New York Giants fans could have been enjoying the elite play of Drake Maye, but this is not that world.
Instead, they extended Daniel Jones for four years and $160 million during the 2023 offseason. Then he tore his right ACL in the middle of a bad season.
Normally, that may have led the Giants to start tanking for a top pick. But then undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito won them some games, allowing the even worse New England Patriots to swoop in and get Maye in the 2024 NFL draft, frustrating Big Blue's fans.

Bobby Skinner, host of the "Talkin' Giants" podcast, summed up that feeling in his reaction post on X/Twitter to seeing the No. 3 overall pick's pre-draft meeting on "Hard Knocks":

And soon, many fans seemed to concur with him, blaming DeVito:
More scapegoating soon followed online:
"Tommy DeVito will pay for his crimes," one fan said.
"Im never forgiving Tommy DeVito," another fan said.
"Tommy DeVito, you will pay for this," another fan added.
Rich Eisen doubles down on Giants' 'buyer's remorse' theory after 'Hard Knocks' episode
Speaking of "Hard Knocks", one popular sportscaster's New York Giants theory resurfaced after its first episode.
Back during March's NFL Combine, Rich Eisen claimed that General Manager Joe Schoen has been having "buyer's remorse" for extending Daniel Jones before his team regressed from a run to the Divisional Round to 6-11 in 2023-24. He also claimed that the team was "totally giving up on" their quarterback and wanted to trade up for his replacement.
While a poor offensive line was among the likelier reasons, as Schoen told two executives in a meeting that was shown in an episode, that did not stop Eisen from having this theory.
Speaking on his eponymous show on Monday after watching the "Hard Knocks" episode, Eisen said:
“I have no problem being wrong about this. This is a rumor I heard from multiple people. It’s stuff that I hear all the time. Could those folks have been wrong, thus me coming here and saying it into a mic, been irresponsible? I’m hearing this right.
“That said, I do want to hear later on. And I hope we will, and it’s possible that we will because the Giants let all this stuff out,” he added.
With the No. 6 overall pick, the Giants eventually settled on LSU wideout Malik Nabers, giving Jones a legitimate WR1 option for next season.
