As per Harvard-trained sports surgeon Deepak Chona, Malik Nabers suffered a low ankle sprain during the Giants' practice on Sunday. He believes the player will remain out for a week before returning to action.

When Nabers went down during a non-contact play on Sunday, he took off his left shoe before the trainers inspected his foot. They observed him for about 20 minutes and attempted to stretch out the player's foot and ankle. It was later reported that Nabers left the field and headed to the locker room, walking with a significant limp.

Nabers, New York's first-round pick from this year's NFL draft, didn't train with the Giants on Monday. He's been listed as day-to-day on the Giants' injury report. The team has also not ruled out the LSU standout from featuring in the preseason game against the Houston Texans on Saturday.

On Monday, coach Daboll provided a small update about Nabers' absence.

“They are still doing evaluation on him,” Daboll said. “But he’s a little sore, so we will back off him.”

Now, the Giants will be relieved to know that Nabers' injury isn't serious. Barring any further setbacks, he should comfortably be able to recover in time for the start of New York's regular-season opener at MetLife Stadium against the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 8.

The Giants will travel to face the Texans in their next preseason game on Saturday. They will conclude their preseason with a short trip to face cross-town rivals, the New York Jets. It remains to be seen whether Nabers will play a part in the Giants' remaining preseason games.
