Giants HC Brian Daboll makes feelings clear over Daniel Jones' role after 4-game losing streak

Daniel Jones and the New York Giants are 2-7 and are on a four-game losing streak. Even though Jones scored his first touchdown pass in 672 days, calls for his benching grew louder because of the team's performance on Sunday.

Addressing rumors of a potential Jones benching, Giants coach Brian Daboll confirmed Monday that Jones will start against the Carolina Panthers in Germany.

“Nothing changes,” Daboll said.

Though the team may have lost last Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders, Jones has played better than any other game in the season. He completed 20 out of 26 passes and recorded 174 yards and two touchdowns. He also recorded 54 rushing yards and a rushing TD.

Daboll added that Jones had done a good job so far and gave him a shoutout for his Pittsburgh Steelers game, which the team lost.

"When you lose, you know, it doesn’t feel like any of that, but he made a lot of good plays for us," Daboll said. ... "I think he executed the offense well and gave us an opportunity."

Next week, the Giants will face the Panthers before entering their bye week. The Panthers are coming off a surprise victory against the New Orleans Saints.

If the Giants fall to the Panthers, however, the team might be forced to look at their other options for the QB position.

Brian Daboll deployed more run plays in the first half of the game against the Commanders. Many analysts and fans wondered if the coach had lost faith in Daniel Jones' ability to pass.

However, Daboll cleared the air and said they were averaging seven yards running the ball they "felt comfortable."

"We wanted to run the ball and control the line of scrimmage," Daboll said. "It has nothing to do with Daniel throwing it or not throwing it."

Can the Giants beat the Panthers next week before entering their bye week? Or will they extend their losing streak to five?
