The NFL is going full-steam on its international expansion plans. Earlier this year, the Commissioner of the league, Roger Goodell, announced that the NFL is planning on extending the regular season to 18 games per season, instead of the 17 right now. Moreover, it had set its sights on hosting more games in foreign stadiums.
On Wednesday, the league announced that it will be hosting its first-ever regular season game in the capital of Germany, Berlin. However, Berlin is not the first German city to host an NFL game. Previously, including this year, both Frankfurt and Munich had played host to NFL games. It's not like Berlin hasn't hosted a football game before, but that was 34 years ago and it was a pre-season game, not a regular.
"Germany has a rich tradition of American football, and the NFL has a deep history with the city of Berlin," Roger Goodell said in a press statement.

However, football fans were divided over the announcement. Many home fans seemed to dislike the idea that the NFL was playing more and more games abroad rather than at home. On the other hand, many international fans were excited about the NFL possibly coming to their city at some point.
"International games are weak," one fan complained.
"Great opportunity for Bears vs Giants," another fan said.
"The European takeover is real," one fan said.
Other fans also chimed in with their reactions to the NFL announcing its first-ever Berlin game.
"Stop playing international games," another fan said.
"Such a great news for the fans," one fan said.
"Expanding! NFL IS THE BEST" another fan said.
Which teams will play in the international games?
While the NFL has announced plans that it will host international games in the upcoming season, there is still no clue as to which teams will play which international games. The trend has been that the teams and the dates and times of the international games are announced in spring.
Hence, NFL fans will have to wait till at least the 2025 NFL Draft, which is set to take place in April next year for the schedules to be released.
