We're halfway into Divisional Round week but it's been all about how the Dallas Cowboys fired Mike McCarthy a week after Black Monday only to reach out to Deion Sanders in the hope that the two-time Super Bowl champion will take over as head coach.
Franchise owner Jerry Jones had an exclusive two-week negotiation window with McCarthy that lasted until Jan. 14 before the two sides decided to part ways without coming to consensus on what the future would look like at The Star.
Jones wasted little time in reaching out to Sanders, a man many assume will be his top choice to replace McCarthy. As things stand, the Cowboys have not requested interviews with any candidates, unlike the other six teams with a vacancy including the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Las Vegas Raiders.
Given the fact that Jerry Jones has already tested the waters, Cowboys Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin also decided to do his part by reaching out to 'Coach Prime.' On the latest episode of FS1's "Speak", Irvin revealed a few details about their conversation. He said:

“A phone call was made. I don’t know how any GM says we got to do something to get over the hump or get to a better place and not sit down and consider Deion Sanders with the track record he has laid out before you. You have to consider this. If you’re not considering him, you’re not doing your job totally.
“When I talked to Deion this morning he said to me, 'I can tell you this, we did talk and these things but Michael this is it we can’t go any farther with it.' I was like okay, I know I got a big mouth, I won’t go too far with it but I appreciate you telling me that because that means good conversations are being had, not just conversations.”
Does Deion Sanders have a buyout clause Cowboys can trigger?
Per multiple reports, Sanders has an $8 million buyout clause, much like Bill Belichick's $10 million buyout clause at the University of North Carolina. If the Cowboys trigger that clause, Deion Sanders will be free to leave Boulder and coach at The Star.
The only sticking point here is that Sanders has made it known he would only consider coaching in the National Football League if he gets the opportunity to coach both his sons - Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders.
While the Cowboys could draft the latter towards the back end of the draft, Dallas is in no position to reach for Shedeur Sanders given the fact they will be picking at No. 12 overall in April.
