Hall of Famer Brett Favre weighs in on guardian caps as NFL aims to reduce concussions

As the NFL looks to limit and create new ways to prevent concussions, one thing the league recently introduced was requiring the use of guardian cap helmets.

For the first time this offseason, the NFL has required all positions except quarterbacks and specialists to wear guardian caps during training camp and has approved them for in-game use this season.

Former quarterback Brett Favre gave his take on players sporting the guardian caps during games.

"Guardian caps are a good thing for practice. Now in a game, I’m sure if it’s fair for some to wear during a game while others don’t," Favre tweeted.

Favre is reportedly set to be a key character in "Concussed: The American Dream," an upcoming documentary on Apple TV. Favre's quote tweet about guardian caps was in response to the film's tweet on X, stating that no matter what protection is on the head, it won't take away brain injuries from a head-on collision.

NFL running back Jonathan Taylor spoke about wearing guardian cap this preseason

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has worn a guardian cap all preseason, including in last night's preseason finale against the Cincinnati Bengals.

During the third quarter of Thursday's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Taylor was asked about wearing the guardian cap.

"We wear them all the time in practice but it's a different environment in a game," Taylor said on his interview with Prime. "I thought it was only right to try it out in the preseason; it's different than practice when you're tackled. I haven't noted many negatives."

Taylor spoke about potentially sporting the guardian cap for the first week of the regular season.

"I'm going to sit down and evaluate it. It's limited snaps, who knows what happens in the regular season. (But) I'm seeing how many snaps I can get with it on to see if there were any glaring issues."

It will be interesting to see if Taylor and other NFL players use the guardian cap in the regular season. It was introduced as an option for players for a reason: to help prevent concussions, and if numbers stay the same or increase, the league could look to mandate it.
