Cowboys owner praises Mike McCarthy but holds off on final decision until season concludes
As Mike McCarthy’s contract with the Dallas Cowboys ends with the conclusion of the 2024 season, fans are eager to know what’s next for the coach. Team owner Jerry Jones has praised the coach but will wait for the season's completion before making a final decision.
In a weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, Jones opened up about McCarthy.
"I don't have any comment this morning other than what you just said, and I think the fan sentiment has shown that Mike's certainly got the kind of coaching background and coaching success that would make him a very qualified coach in the NFL," Jones said.
"What I'm not going to do this morning is to get into any indication one way or the other that I'm not interested in having Mike back, I don't want that to be the case at all."
However, as McCarthy’s contract with Dallas expires in the coming weeks, he could be free to join other teams. While he could reportedly join the Bears, other coaches are also in contention for the position.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl-winning coach Pete Carroll is also interested in the Bears' head coach role. Nonetheless, only time will tell who will ultimately take up the position.
