The Philadelphia Eagles are the most in-form team in the NFL. They have won eight straight games and are second in the NFC rankings, only one game behind the 11-1 Detroit Lions.
Most of the credit for their incredible season has gone to their offense, especially Saquon Barkley. The superstar running back is having a historic campaign. He's averaging 124.9 rushing yards per game and is on pace to break Erik Dickerson's single-season record for most rushing yards in a season.
As exceptional as Barkley and the offense have been, the defense has also been stellar. They've given up only 18.2 points per game, which ranks fourth in the league.
The key to their success has been their defensive line's innate ability to get to the quarterback, the credit for which, according to former Eagles star Mike Golic, belongs to Jaylen Carter. On the Dan Patrick Show, the retired defensive lineman lauded the young star and compared him to a franchise icon. He said:

"People have started bringing up Dan that he is kind of The Reincarnation of Jerome Brown, my former teammate. And that is spot on. I mean Jalen Carter plays on the other side of the line just like Jerome did, quickness, strength, leverage. He is a one man wrecking crew."
Golic added that Barkley deserves all the plaudits for his historic season, but Carter deserves just as much love from Eagles fans. He said:
"I would completely agree with you [that he is the unsung MVP]. We know that's not going to happen but as far as being an MVP but MVP of the team I mean you could certainly see that probably be Saquon Barkley. But what an impact that middle interior D line is having."
Jalen Carter stats: DT's impactful campaign
Through 12 games, Jalen Carter has 4.5 sacks and one forced fumble. While the baseline numbers may not seem as impressive, a deeper dive reveals why Golic touted him as the MVP of the Eagles' defense.
Among interior defensive linemen, he ranks fifth in sacks, sixth in quarterback hurries with 30, fourth in quarterback pressures with 43, and fourth in batted passes with four. He has an 85 pass rush grade on Pro Football Focus, which ranks fourth among interior linemen.
Carter being a disruptive force is one of the main reasons why the Eagles have given up only 178 passing yards on average, the third-fewest in the league. Saquon Barkley is stealing the limelight, but the defensive lineman has been the Eagles' MVP on defense.
