There are quite a few storylines to follow as we approach Week 17's round of fixtures. Several quarterbacks are likely to lose their spot under center while we will also see a few head coaches being replaced this summer. Whether Aaron Rodgers will be one of the names booted out in 2025 remains to be seen but the four-time NFL MVP is certainly doing everything in his power to be in control of his future.

Last week, Rodgers said he would be open to taking a pay cut on his $112.5 million contract to stay with the Jets and afford them some room to maneuver in the free-agent market. Rodgers also told reporters that he would mentor "the hell" out of a rookie quarterback if the Jets choose to go down that route in April's NFL Draft.

However, Rodgers' comments have not won over Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irvin. The Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver likened Rodgers' comments to begging, in an attempt to stay with the franchise next year. On FS1's Speak, Irvin said:

“He’s flat-out begging. He’s begging. I’ll give back some money. I’m willing to be a mentor. Willing to go and do the thing he did not get. This may be the beginning of seeing that maybe there is a glimpse of an opportunity.

"I’m not saying that Aaron Rodgers can’t play the game. I’m saying he can’t play the game outside of the game good enough to keep him in the game right now. When you have an older guy that’s always bringing people together. Always about unity."

Aaron Rodgers set to take some time out before deciding on 2025

Before being traded to the Jets, Rodgers took some time out to fly down to Costa Rica to trip on some ayahuasca to "discover himself." This year, Rodgers said he would take some more time to "get away" from football and make a decision on his future.

On The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers said he would be open to returning with the franchise but wasn't sure if the franchise had already made a decision, or if they had made a decision and chosen not to let him know about it.

However, he did acknowledge that the franchise would first need to hire a GM to replace Joe Douglas before deciding on a course of action for 2025.
