NFL fans react to Alvin Kamara's $25,000,000 contract extension with Saints - "He's never going to win a ring"

The New Orleans Saints signed running back Alvin Kamara to a two-year, $25 million extension on Tuesday. Kamara was slated to become a free agent after the 2025 season.

With the team sitting at a 2-5 record, many expected the Saints to become sellers at the trade deadline, especially as they are almost $100 million over the cap in 2025. However, they decided to extend Kamara, surprising fans and analysts in the process.

NFL fans were especially harsh on the running back for his decision. Many fans pointed out that he has been one of the most dominant players since he was drafted in 2017, but has not played for a contender since Drew Brees retired from the NFL:

"They have no choice but to extend all their aging players because of their cap," noted one fan.

"That's actually a good deal for both sides, especially when they stop paying a quarterback next year," said another.

"Kamara is the only good thing about their offense right now, so kinda smart to get him locked up," a third one added.

Alvin Kamara's 2024 season in numbers

The New Orleans Saints running back is known as a dual-threat player. He has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in scrimmage yards every year since he was drafted in 2017. He's on pace to do the same this season; however, it's now due to volume instead of pure production.

Averaging 3.9 yards per carry, his numbers have been tailed off from the 6.1 yards per carry he averaged in 2017. His production in the passing game remains largely the same, but many analysts agree he has lost a step and isn't the same explosive player after nine seasons in the league.

In the end, the extension was made due to financial reasons, with New Orleans needing to push some money forward to ease their problems with the salary cap.
