Ja'Marr Chase has adopted an interesting strategy to secure a new deal. He held out for the entire preseason and then joined the team after the training camp ended on Tuesday. However, Chase is now back to holding out again.

The Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor felt relieved at Chase joining the team. As per ESPN, the coach not only expected the 24-year-old to show up for practice sessions throughout the week but also wanted to start him in their Week 1 clash.

However, on Wednesday, ESPN reporter Ben Baby reported that Ja’Marr Chase would not be practicing.

“Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase is not practicing today, one day after coach Zac Taylor said he’d be a full participant all week,” Baby wrote on X.

Some NFL fans suspected that CeeDee Lamb signing a massive $136 million deal after holding out for the entire preseason could have affected Chase’s mindset.

“He saw CeeDee got that bag,” one fan wrote.
“His attitude changed after Lamb signed his deal," another added.
“Because CeeDee signed! We can win without Ja’Marr, but he definitely would make it a lot easier”, wrote one Bengals supporter.

Other fans expressed frustration at Ja’Marr Chase for the holdout since he has two years left on his deal.

“Dude needs to lay off of streaming GTA and get to work”, wrote one fan.
“Drama queen of WRs”, wrote another fan.
“Another Diva update”, wrote a fan on X (previously Twitter).

Ja’Marr Chase looking for a big number could cause ripples in the NFL

Earlier this season, Justin Jefferson's signing influenced the wide receiver market. Now that CeeDee Lamb's extension has been finalized, the Bengals are concerned about Chase's potential desire for another market reset for a reported $160 million. During the latest episode of "The Insiders," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport gave more insight on this.

"It is a challenge, a big-time challenge,” said Rapoport. “Mostly because it's early, and the expenditure for the Bengals would be massive. But it is still possible, and the landscape of the receiver deals got much more clearly defined with this CeeDee Lamb deal”.

The Bengals start their campaign at home against the New England Patriots on September 8. Whether Chase will play that game is anybody's guess.
