Lamar Jackson added another feather in his cap after helping the Ravens lock up the AFC North with a victory over the Browns. In the process, he advanced his case for being the MVP again this season, adding to the one he won last year and in 2019.
Hall-of-Famer Shannon Sharpe certainly believes so. He took to X/Twitter to say that there should be no further debate on this issue and that the Baltimore quarterback should win the award. Lamar Jackson threw two touchdown passes to bring his total passing touchdowns to 41. He was also not picked off, meaning he has four interceptions in 2024. His passer rating of 121.6 was the second-highest all-time coming into this game.
Taking all of this into account, the Super Bowl-winning former tight end said,
"Give that man his MVP. 41 TD passes 4 ints, 900 yds rushing, 2nd highest passer rating in NFL history and they’re division champs. L. Jackson has earned MVP this season. Go in your closet and debate yourself."

It must be noted that Lamar Jackson finished with a final passer rating of 119.9, which dropped him down the list to make it the fifth-highest ever. He became the first person to have 4,000 passing yards and 900 rushing yards. He is also now the only quarterback to ever throw for that many yards and still have fewer than five picks.
Shannon Sharpe's Lamar Jackson endorsement in conflict with fellow Hall-of-Fame QB's choice
While Shannon Sharpe has Lamar Jackson as his MVP, there is no unanimity in the wider NFL community. The award is widely believed to be between the Ravens' quarterback, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow. And Hall-of-Fame quarterback Troy Aikman believes that the Bengals quarterback deserves the award for what he has accomplished this year. The former Cowboys' star said on the Week 17 broadcast,
"I know there's going to be a lot of people out there making votes, and who's the MVP and all of that. I will just say that no disrespect to anyone in the great years that they've had, if I had a vote, it would go to Joe Burrow. What he has done has been terrific."
The difference in opinion between two former players who have played the game at the highest level shows how close the MVP race is this year. Some would even add players like Sam Darnold and Jared Goff to it too, probably depending on who takes the NFC top seed in their matchup when the Lions face the Vikings in Week 18.
