Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown will miss more time than expected. After suffering a sternoclavicular joint dislocation in the Chiefs' preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Brown missed the remainder of the 2024 preseason with the injury.
Expected to miss Week 1, the Chiefs were hopeful that Brown would return sooner than later. On Friday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reported that the Chiefs are placing Brown on injured reserve and that he needs to undergo surgery following the injury.
Brown, who missed the Chiefs' season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, will be out for at least the next four weeks after being placed on injured reserve. This is concerning for both the Chiefs and Brown.

Earlier this week, Chiefs coach Andy Reid provided an update on Brown and did not rule him out of playing in Week 2. He said Brown's recovery was going well and that he's expected to return to the field shortly. Only a day later, Brown was placed on injured reserve.
The last known player to suffer the same injury was wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who went through the same injury with the Chiefs during the 2019 season. His injury happened later in the preseason than Brown, but he only missed four games due to the injury.
Chiefs depth chart in the spotlight after Hollywood Browns' injury
With Marquise Brown out of the Kansas City Chiefs lineup, the wide receiver corps is missing a big weapon. The Chiefs added three new wide receivers this offseason.
The Chiefs signed Marquise "Hollywood" Brown in free agency and later signed JuJu Smith-Schuster, who was on their roster two seasons ago. The Chiefs traded up in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft to select wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
Second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice is currently the No. 1 wide receiver. Brown is listed as WR No. 2, but with him out, Worthy will have a prominent role as the other wideout lined up opposite of Rice.
On the inside in the slot are JuJu Smith-Schuster and Skyy Moore. The Chiefs also have wide receiver Justin Watson active.
Worthy and Rice seem to be the featured wideouts (as expected) and when Brown comes back, the Chiefs will have three solid options that can spread the field out. Tight end Travis Kelce is also a viable pass-catching option.
