The Los Angeles Rams had the most disappointing Super Bowl defense in history during the 2022 NFL season.
The team went from Super Bowl champs to being out of playoff contention after week 15. The Rams mortgaged their future for one more Super Bowl ring, but due to their poor performance in the 2022 season, it's time for the Rams to pay attention to their immediate future. They could start this herculean task by drafting right in the 2023 NFL draft.
The Rams have 12 draft picks in the 2023 NFL draft. Three selections, a second and third-rounder, reside on Day two. The rest are Day-three picks, all outside the top 150. Unfortunately, the Rams have zero first-round selections in the 2023 draft. This will be the team's seventh straight draft without a first-round draft pick.
Ironically, the Rams' first selection comes at 36th overall, and it will be their earliest draft pick since taking Jared Goff No. 1 overall in the 2016 draft. It's the closest Los Angeles has been to Round 1 since then and will allow the Rams to capitalize on first-round talent sneaking through the cracks.

Can Los Angeles Rams begin their rebuild in 2023?
Yes, the Los Angeles Rams can begin their rebuild in 2023, and it's not a question of whether they can but that they must. The Rams have an unbalanced roster filled with overpaid veterans and below-par role players. They have been clearing up their roster all off-season as they attempt to free up cap space.
The most significant departure so far is the perennial All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who was traded to the Miami Dolphins for a third-round pick and a backup tight end. There have been reports that the Rams are low-key shopping Aaron Donald and Matthew Stafford. If that's true, Les Snead is undertaking a significant rebuild.
Snead has his work cut out, though, as the Los Angeles Rams need help in almost every position you can think of. The Rams can use their late draft picks to select uncut defensive diamonds. Moreover, they could make do with at least one more season of the Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp tandem on offense.
If they can survive this season, they can continue rebuilding during the 2025 draft. However, the story of the Los Angeles Rams should deter teams that decide to eschew draft capital in favor of one season or two of immediate contention. So much for all those picks.
