There are 259 picks in the 2023 NFL draft, where all 32 teams will have the chance to select young prospects.
The Draft will have seven rounds, and at least 32 players will be selected in each round. The NFL draft works uniquely, as the worst team in the previous season gets to pick first in each round, while the best selects last.
However, some teams trade their draft picks for a player and/or monetary compensation. For instance, this year, the Chicago Bears owned the first overall pick in the draft by having the worst record in the 2022 season. However, they decided to deal with the Carolina Panthers for their No. 1 pick.
This deal got them the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, a starting caliber wide receiver and an array of other draft picks in coming years. You can expect more blockbuster trades as draft day countdown begins.
