How much weight did Aaron Rodgers lose for 2022 NFL season?

While all the losses Aaron Rodgers has accrued this season, there is one loss that he should be happy about. Weighing in at a lean 225 lbs, he has lost 15 lbs from his previous weight over the last couple of years. Considering the fact that when he was drafted, he weighed 223 lbs, this is a remarkable consistency considering his age.

The main reason why quarterbacks in general care about getting leaner is the way the NFL has matured over the years. It is more of a passing league, where runners are quicker than ever. Hence, rather than bulk, one needs to be quick and nimble to release the ball as early as possible on each drive.

Aaron Rodgers has never shied away from trying alternate medicine and he shed his excess weight with the help of an Ayurvedic cleaning technique. Known as a Panchakarma cleanse, it lasts for 12 days. During that period, his main meal was khichadi, which is an Indian soup of rice and lentils.

He has also chosen to partake in a healthier lifestyle as well. He has switched to a mainly plant-based diet with red meat and other protein sources only from time to time. Despite being the leader on the field for the cheeseheads of Wisconsin, he does not eat dairy. All of that means that he can be a leaner and meaner machine in the 2022 season.

Aaron Rodgers: The material effects of his weight loss

For the Green Bay Packers, a leaner quarterback who is healthier than ever before is a boon. He has reduced his average throwing time down from 2.95 to 2.44 seconds. That bodes well for any play-design because it means that Aaron Rodgers is faster on his feet and seeing the field earlier. Here's how he put it on the Pat McAfee Show:

“It’s just changed the way my joints respond. It’s changed the way my skin and body respond. I don’t feel bloated all the time, I don’t feel kind of slow and foggy. Less inflammation means you’re going to be healthier, and I just haven’t had the joint issues that I’ve had in years past”.

It marks a remarkable career arc for the man who was the face of Pizza Hut for so long. Now, he does not even touch gluten and dairy. That the Packers have been unable to take advantage of a refreshed and revived Aaron Rodgers is a calamity for them this season. They need to give him the right tools and there is a better chance than not that the offense will improve under him imminently.
