Justin Fields started the 2024 campaign on a run set to make Russell Wilson old news. However, once Wilson took the helm in the middle of the season, Fields was mostly relegated out of the spotlight.

With things seemingly unclear for the team and the quarterback moving forward, many have speculated what is to come after his 2024 $3,233,448 cap hit drops off the books.

In a statement made to Triblive, Fields at least opened up on his feelings about what he wants to do after the season:

“I want to be here. I’m kind of tired of learning a new offense every year. This will be my third in four years. Of course, I’d love to be back, but that’s all up to God at the end of the day. I’ll be where God wants me to be.”

Of course, one might hope that he was more enthusiastic about remaining with the team and having another reason for staying beyond not wanting to learn a new playbook. However, the Steelers now know Fields' position and can act accordingly depending on what they wish to do.

Justin Fields' contract situation puts Steelers on course for QB house-cleaning

The Steelers quarterback is still working on his rookie contract, but not for long. The quarterback is working under the same contract he signed with the Chicago Bears and as the team never picked up his fifth-year option, his contract will effectively expire in just days.

Meanwhile, Russell Wilson was brought aboard on a one-year deal that will also conclude at the same time as Justin Fields'. Depending on how the Steelers play it, they can end up losing both quarterbacks, landing in a similar spot they were in 2024.

Of course, with three quarterbacks on the depth chart, some may think the team at least has Kyle Allen in their back pocket. However, per Spotrac, Allen's deal is also set to expire after the season.

Put simply, the Steelers have a mountain of work ahead of them to figure out who will be in the room next season. Could the quarterback plan look entirely different for a third straight season?
