Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets' season didn't quite end as unceremoniously as it had begun, but it ended in a whimper regardless. Their regular season finale against the Miami Dolphins ended in a win, with Rodgers racking up a personal milestone (surpassing 500 career TDs), but we saw little else to signify that the Jets should stick with this roster next season.

All things considered, Rodgers, who signed a three year, $112.5 million deal after being traded to the Jets, is unlikely to suit up in Gang Green next season. That would bring to an end to a thoroughly impressive career that saw him being named the MVP four times, winning the Lombardi once and making 10 Pro Bowls.

This week, former NFL MVP Cam Newton looked back on Rodgers' time with the Jets and had some harsh words for the four-time All-Pro QB.

“What he was able to do in his career will never be forgotten. But what his career looked like while he was a New York Jet is something that he wants to forget. And you have to ask yourself this question: was this the biggest blunder in NFL history of the last decade? I say so," Newton said on his 4th and 1 Show.

"People for the Jets organization as well as the fanbase was expecting Aaron Rodgers’ trade to be equivalent to Tom Brady being acquired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a fan, as a critic, I can say you’re not like that. As a fan of Aaron Rodgers I’d hate for that to be a blemish on his career but that is, in essence, what it is."

Where do Aaron Rodgers and the Jets go from here?

There's one of three things that could happen:

1] The new GM and coach decide that Rodgers has shown enough to warrant another year, one that could be his final one in the league.

2] The franchise decides they need to start over and draft a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.

3] The Jets release Rodgers, and he signs with another franchise.

Of the three, the first two are more likely, though, as things stand, Rodgers appears to be on his way out. For his part, Rodgers has made it known that he would be open to discussing a pay cut to return in 2025.

Aaron Rodgers' 2025 cap hit will come in at $23.5 million, and he's also owed a $35 million option bonus, which will be due if the Jets keep him on its roster for next season.
