The saga surrounding the New York Jets trade for quarterback Aaron Rodgers continues. It has now been several weeks since the quarterback told Pat McAfee that he intends to play for the Jets next season. The celebrated QB added that he was awaiting the Green Bay Packers and Jets to settle on the right compensation for him.

In the meantime, however, the quarterback is training with one of his teammates this offseason. Wide receiver Allen Lazard, who played in Green Bay from 2018 to 2022, signed with the New York Jets on March 17 on a four-year deal.

Lazard posted a photo to his Instagram stories of himself and Rodgers training together. The photo shows the two running, with Lazard captioning it by stating that he always passes the quarterback, a dig toward his speed.

Lazard then also added a screenshot of the news that his former Packers' teammate quarterback Tim Boyle had also signed with the New York Jets. Lazard shared his excitement for the move while also saying that they were "rallying the troops."

Whether the New York Jets signed Boyle as a backup option for Rodgers or as a backup in case they can't complete the trade for the quarterback remains to be seen. But it appears that Allen Lazard is quite confident that he will get his quarterback in a New York Jets uniform this season.

The Green Bay Packers are rumored to have asked for multiple first-round draft picks for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. And, the New York Jets aren't exactly on board with doing so for a 39-year-old quarterback.

Hence, the reason why the quarterback is yet to be dealt, about three weeks after he said he wanted to be traded.

ESPN's Senior NFL Reporter Jeremy Fowler reported this week that he expects the trade to be complete by the first day of the draft on Thursday, April 27, 2023. Fowler said that a lot of the deal has already been agreed upon and nearly finished at this point.

Completing the trade by the first day of the draft was likely a deadline for both the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers, considering draft picks were part of the trade compensation.
