Is Joe Mixon playing today? Texans RB's status revealed for Week 4 game vs Jaguars

On Sunday, the Houston Texans will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in an AFC South battle at NRG Stadium. And they are keen to have running back Joe Mixon back for that clash.

The Texans are eager to bounce back from their blowout loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3. They were trounced 34-7, as neither the offense could get going nor the defense could contain Sam Darnold and Co. The Texans' ground game was particularly dismal. Houston finished the game with only 38 rushing yards, highlighting how much they missed Mixon.

Will Joe Mixon play in Week 4?

Per the Texans' injury report, Joe Mixon missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday but returned on Friday in a limited capacity. His status for their Week 4 game against the Jaguars has been upgraded to OUT.

The running back was in line to return on Sunday and provide a much-needed boost to Houston's ground game.

His return should also help soften the blow of wide receiver Tank Dell's absence, who is set to miss the game with a chest injury.

Dell was one of the silver linings in their blowout loss to the Vikings in Week 3. He finished the game with five catches for 62 yards.

The Texans sit atop the AFC South standings with a 2-1 record and have more wins than the other teams combined. They will look to fortify their place atop the table with another win on Sunday.

Joe Mixon's performance this season

Joe Mixon, who signed a three-year, $27 million deal with the franchise in the offseason, was incredible on his debut against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. He finished the game with 159 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on 30 carries and caught three passes for 19 yards.

Mixon was having a productive day on his home debut in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears before it was cut short due to an ankle injury he suffered following a hip-drop tackle from Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards.

It ruled him out of the game and forced him to miss their Week 3 loss against the Vikings. The Texans hope he'll be ready to play in their Week 4 clash against the Jaguars and their wish might come true.
