Odell Beckham Jr. won't be suiting up for the Dallas Cowboys. At least not this season.

Following the Cowboys' incredible 40-34 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the team's owner and general manager Jerry Jones confirmed that the team won't be signing Beckham for the home stretch of the season. He explained:

“Well, I think the big thing is me or whoever has let enough time go as we get toward the end of the season that it’s not realistic to think about having him in any meaningful way for the playoffs."

He continued:

"That’s not dismissing [signing Beckham in] the future, but it is dismissing, for the most part, the reality of him getting in here and helping us in the playoffs. That was a big part of the equation.”

On December 12th, the team signed former Indianapolis Colts superstar T.Y. Hilton to fill the vacant wide receiver spot. His first reception as a Cowboy was a 53-yard bomb.

Jones praised Hilton for his incredible catch and believes the veteran could be the final piece of the puzzle for the Cowboys' offense this season. He explained:

“It was all there — his [Hilton's] experience, his speed — to turn around and make that play. That’s exactly what I thought he could get a chance to do. He was so excited about getting to come in here and be in games. I’m really proud for him. I’m really proud for our team, too, because he’ll add a dimension to this thing that just opens it up a little more.”

It's a stunning backtrack from Jones, who claimed earlier this month that the team was close to signing Beckham.

Will Odell Beckham Jr. play this season?

With the Cowboys distancing themselves from signing Odell Beckham Jr. this season, it seems unlikely that the wide receiver will play this season. Beckham had been looking to sign for a team contending for the Super Bowl, but almost every top team has a dearth of talent at wide receiver.

A key player suffering an injury could pave the way for Beckham to sign for a Super Bowl contender. But at the moment, it's unlikely that he will feature this season.

Odell Beckham Jr.'s last appearance on the field was in the Super Bowl earlier this year. He suffered a knee injury that has sidelined him since that game, and reports suggest teams that were in the running to land the wide receiver had concerns about his recovery.
