As has often been the case this season with the Kansas City Chiefs, the biggest talking point following their win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game was the contentious refereeing. The reigning Super Bowl champions benefitted from several 50-50 calls going in their favor, much to the frustration of fans.

Kansas City's unparalleled dominance has turned almost every neutral against them and comedian Bill Burr believes the lack of competition is actually hurting Patrick Mahomes and his team.

"It's a business. The problem with the Chiefs is Patrick Mahomes doesn't have a dance partner. Well, you had Bradshaw-Staubach, you had Montana-Elway. He's just the only guy," he said on The Rich Eisen Show.

Burr also gave his two cents on fans' claims that the Chiefs always being on the right end of 50-50 decisions was by design and not fortune as the league wants them to win.

"I don't think it's fixed. I think it's massaged. There's definitely more back rubs on one side I just think - where is the money. Come on, man. They got all the stars. They got Taylor Swift. I mean, that's going to be a lot. It's a business. Why are they an entertainment league? Why aren't they a sports league? I don't watch Chiefs games. It drives me insane," he said.

Patrick Mahomes downplayed the idea that the Chiefs are favored by referees

In the lead-up to the AFC Championship Game against the Bills, Patrick Mahomes was asked whether he feels that the referees often ruled in the Chiefs' favor on 50-50 decisions.

“Obviously, I’ve been on both sides of it as far as how I’ve felt that calls were made," he said (via Sports Illustrated). "At the end of the day, those guys (referees) are doing their best to make the best calls and keep it to where the players are making the plays in the game, and that’s what decides the outcome.”

Just three days later, Mahomes and his teammates were the beneficiaries of multiple controversial decisions going in their favor. As much as the quarterback and the Chiefs would like to shut down the narrative that they receive preferential treatment from the officiating crew, the evidence seemingly points to the contrary.
