J.J. Watt brutally shutting down Twitter trolls remains hallmark of Cardinals star’s off-field shenanigans

On Tuesday, Arizona Cardinals defensive end J.J. Watt announced that he will be retiring at the end of the 2022 NFL season. The star defensive end has certainly left his mark on the game and will likely be a first ballot Hall of Fame inductee. However, it's his social media presence that still has NFL fans laughing.

Watt isn't one to just let things go, and he will in fact respond to all of the internet trolls that have said something about him. One of his most iconic Tweets dates back to 2015 when someone commented that he was just a two-star recruit coming out of high school.

The now deleted Tweet apparently criticized the defensive end's lack of recruitment and bragged about others having a five-star status. In 2015, Watt replied by saying that he would keep his two stars and the two Defensive Player of the Year awards that he had at the time. He went on to win a third later that year.

"You keep your 5 stars. I'll keep my 2. And the 2 DPOY trophies that match. #JustGettingStarted."

Another instance in which J.J. Watt clapped back at an internet troll came more recently. After his youngest brother T.J. Watt recorded 75 career sacks, the defensive end commented that he was on a list with his childhood idol Reggie White and the 'child' he grew up with.

Some apparently didn't believe that Reggie White was his childhood idol and criticized him. He responded with a quote from his seven-year-old self in which he talked about how great of a player White was and that he now wanted to be a football player.

When will J.J. Watt be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

J.J. Watt has created quite a resume in his 12 NFL seasons. While injuries prevented him from playing even longer, he will likely be seen as one of the best defensive ends to ever play in the NFL.

He was named the Defensive Player of the Year three times in 2012, 2014 and 2015. He was the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2017 after his tremendous efforts to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas.

He was the NFL sack leader twice and was named to the NFL Pro Bowl five times. His resume clearly has him lined up to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame despite never winning a Lombardi Trophy. J.J. Watt will be eligible to be for the Pro Football Hall of Fame ballot in 2028.
