Jamaal Williams injury update: Latest on Saints RB for fantasy football Week 3

It's the last week for Jamaal Williams' reign at the top of the depth chart before Alvin Kamara returns from his suspension. However, will he get to enjoy his last moments alone in the spotlight? Injury concerns plague the running back heading into Week 3.

Here's a look at what's going on and what that means for fantasy football managers.

Jamaal Williams Injury Update

The running back is currently dealing with a hamstring injury.

As Michael Thomas knows, hamstring injuries at positions like running back and wide receiver are one of the worst in fantasy football. His availability for Week 3 is looking grim after missing two straight practices. The running back missed practices on Wednesday and Thursday, per the team's injury report.

At this point, even if he plays, he is likely to be less than 100%.

What happened to Jamaal Willaims?

The Saints running back injured his hamstring in the second quarter of Monday Night Football's primetime showdown against the Carolina Panthers. He did not return to the game.

The injury officially has been designated as a grade two thigh hamstring strain.

If he doesn't play, the depth chart has Tony Jones Jr. and Kendre Miller slotted in to get some snaps. Jones turned in a usable fantasy performance in relief of Williams on Monday, earning 34 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 12 carries.

When will Jamaal Williams return?

With him missing two straight practices and being labeled as questionable, it isn't looking good for Week 3. Then, when Williams does return, Alvin Kamara will be in the lineup and taking at least half of Williams' snaps, if not more. If fantasy managers want to trade him now, there would be worse times.

The hope would be for managers to find someone who doesn't know about Kamara returning. Thus, they would assume that you are panic-trading him at the first sign of injury. Then, managers would overvalue the back and give up something useful for what is on deck to be somewhat of a lemon for the rest of the year.

Sure, Jamaal Williams might still get touches at a regular pace when he returns, but the quantity will be much fewer with Kamara back in the room.
