The Buffalo Bills were in a dogfight with the Kansas City Chiefs and a major reason has been the production from running back James Cook. He has been an emerging star in the NFL and continues to look like an elite running back.

Cook comes from a great family in terms of football talent as his older brother, Dalvin Cook, is also a running back who plays for the Dallas Cowboys. Dalvin posted on social media saying that his younger brother is going to be getting paid when he hits free agency.

"$20,000,000 / yr 💰" he wrote on X.

James Cook is not a free agent until after the 2025 season as he is under a four-year rookie contract and is projected by Spotrac to make $5 million in base salary in the final year of his contract.

He had a strong showing throughout the season as he finished with 207 rushing attempts for 1,009 yards (4.9 yards per carry) with 16 rushing touchdowns as well as 32 receptions for 258 yards (8.1 yards per catch) with two receiving touchdowns. In the playoffs, he had three rushing touchdowns as well.

What's next for the Buffalo Bills?

The Buffalo Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs for the fourth time in the postseason since Josh Allen took over as the starting quarterback of the franchise. This team is arguably one of the most talented teams in the sport but still cannot find a way to get over the hump and make the Super Bowl.

They do not have players coming off the books in terms of contracts but there are some significant pieces, including wide receiver Amari Cooper and cornerback Rasul Douglas, among others. The Bills have one of the best offenses in the sport but need an incredible defense as they are struggling to beat this Kansas City Chiefs team.

The next step is to figure out how to get home-field advantage in the playoffs by locking up the top seed in the AFC. They need the road to go through Buffalo and to get pressure on Mahomes quickly. Josh Allen is going to be entering his eighth season in September and getting a massive defensive piece up front could help them get over the hump.
