Detroit Lions star wide receiver Jameson Williams was already suspended by the NFL for violating the drug-enhancing performance policy, but that's not the only reason why he could get punished again. Even before the league announced his two-game suspension, Williams was involved in an incident that could add more to his existing problems.

Ross Jones of 7 News Detroit reported on Tuesday that two weeks before Williams was suspended, he was nearly arrested by Detroit police after a gun was found in a vehicle driven by his brother. Jones said that the police are trying to find out why Williams was released from custody if the original plans were to take him to jail.

After midnight on Oct. 8, police pulled over a vehicle driven by Williams' brother. He revealed that there were two guns in the car, one in the back seat and the second under Williams' seat. Trouble came after one of the guns was registered to Jameson Williams, but he didn't have a concealed pistol license (CPL). The police officer planned to take Williams into custody, but that's not what happened.

The first officers who pulled him over didn't know who he was, but once a sergeant arrived at the scene, things seemingly got better for him. This sergeant was a Lions fan (he even had the team's logo as his phone's wallpaper).

After a series of calls, this person appeared to be set to take Jameson Williams to jail, but once he talked with another higher-ranking official, the wide receiver was released.

“Okay. Beautiful. I’m good to let him go?” the sergeant asked at 4:31. “You’re a (expletive) hero. Thank you so much.”

After Jones raised questions about how this process was handled, the police decided to launch an investigation.

WXYZ-TV in Detroit reported Tuesday that the Wayne County Prosecutor's office is reviewing a warrant request for Williams' arrest.

Jameson Williams could be suspended over his gun incident

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press says that Jameson Williams could be suspended again after his gun incident. Under the NFL personal conduct policy, players can be suspended if they incur 'illegal possession of a gun or other weapon or possession of a gun or other weapon in any workplace setting.'

The NFL revealed that the Lions informed them of this situation, but they're not expected to make a decision until after this matter is solved legally.

In five games played this season, Williams has caught 17 passes for 361 yards and three touchdowns. The Lions will face their NFC North rival Green Bay Packers this weekend, which will be the second game of Williams' two-game suspension.
