Jared Goff has been touted as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, if not the outright best one. But his performance in the first half of Saturday's Divisional Round matchup was not an indicator of that notion.
Against the Washington Commanders, the Detroit Lions signal caller was picked off twice: first by Quan Martin, who returned the ball 40 yards for a touchdown; then by rookie Mike Sainristil with just over half a minute remaining.
This led to widespread mockery at him:

"They said he was top 5 lol," one fan said.
"System QB gettign exposed," another "announced".
"Put Teddy Bridgewater back in now before it's too late," another begged.
To his credit, Goff also threw a touchdown to Sam LaPorta in that half. However, besides those two interceptions, he also lost a fumble that the Commanders turned into a Brian Robinson Jr. touchdown rush was also sacked once for a loss of five yards. The Lions would enter halftime behind 31-21.
Burgeoning running back Jahmyr Gibbs complemented his passing exploits with nine carries for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Jared Goff reacts to throwing 3 interceptions vs. Commanders
The Lions threw two more interceptions in the second half - the first of them off of a trick play attempt by Jameson Williams. The next (and last one) came with just seconds left in the game.
Staring down a 31-45 deficit, Jared Goff looked for Tim Patrick, only for Jeremy Chinn to be the first to the ball and steal it, gaining seven yards in the process, to end the game - and the season for the top seeds.
Backstage, the quarterback was clearly disgusted with his performance, saying:
“(It) sucks. Worst part of this job. You hate it when you feel like you let guys down. YOu want to win these type of games at home. It’s hard to answer that right now. I’m sorry.”
He continued:
“I wish I could have played a little better. I wish I could have taken care of the ball a little better. Obviously, the pick-six is the one I really like back. It was a poor decision by me.”
Head coach Dan Campbell, meanwhile, took responsibility for the defeat - and all the mistakes that came with it:
“A lot of people don’t know what they go through. You have to get up, bodies, beat to s***, mentally stay locked in and do those things. Long season… It's my fault. It’s my fault.”
The Lions will enter the offseason holding the 28th pick in the upcoming Draft.
