Daniel Jones was horrifically bad in his return to action on Sunday. He threw two interceptions as the New York Giants were routed 6-28 by the visiting Minnesota Vikings. This led to all sorts of condemnation, from criticizing his performance on social media to loud boos, name-calling and burning his jersey after the game ended.

His teammates want this to stop, especially Jermaine Eluemunor. He reacted to a video of fans booing his quarterback from the parking lot as he left MetLife Stadium in civilian clothing. The offensive tackle, who joined the Giants as a free agent during the offseason, said:

"Today didn’t go as expected I get it, but this is WACK AF. As someone who’s dealt with and still fights depression and confidence issues this needs to stop. It’s okay be upset as a fan but to come to the player entrance and act this way is inhumane. We will be better, this needs to be better also."

Daniel Jones' performance vs. the Vikings may be a reason for replacing him in 2025 draft

Unless Daniel Jones somehow rebounds from this performance, he may be gone come 2025.

General manager Joe Schoen has "buyer's remorse" over extending the QB for four years and $160 million during the 2023 offseason only to see him play poorly and then suffer a season-ending Achilles injury. He wanted to trade up for one of the rookies not named Caleb Williams in the 2024 draft but had to settle for wideout Malik Nabers, but he may get another chance in 2025.

Next year's draft class is not exactly rich in QB talent, but two names stand out: Carson Beck and Shedeur Sanders. After backing up current Los Angeles Ram Stetson Bennett, the former has been stellar at Georgia. He led the Bulldogs to two bowl wins, including a record 63-3 rout of Florida State - the largest final margin in FBS bowl game history - and continues his stellar play in 2024.

Then, there is Shedeur Sanders. The son of Deion, who played for the divisional rival Dallas Cowboys, has been one of the most heavily-covered college athletes in recent times. And the prospect of him playing in the nation's largest media market may be enticing enough for Schoen.

But that is not to say that he has no competition, even with the Cowboys having ruled themselves out of the sweepstakes for either prospect by giving Dak Prescott a four-year, $240-million extension - the highest-paying contract in NFL history.

His biggest opposition is the Las Vegas Raiders, who badly need a franchise QB after ditching Derek Carr for 2023, only to see Jimmy Garoppolo completely fail and be benched for fourth-round then-rookie Aidan O' Connell.
