Former Kansas City Chiefs player Jerrell Powe was arrested last week. According to reports, the defensive lineman has been slapped with a kidnapping charge and is now listed at the Madison County Detention Center. The Ridgeland Police Department made the arrest and proceeded to press charges.
Having said that, Powe spent a few years in the NFL and was a star back at Ole Miss from 2008 to 2010, where he played defensive tackle. He left with 69 tackles, seven sacks and one interception in 37 games. He also made the Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference in 2009 and 2010.
His NFL career began in 2011, with the Chiefs drafting him in the sixth round. He was with them for three seasons, playing 12 games. He left for the Houston Texans with eight tackles and one sack.

Powe played for the Texans in 2014, recording 10 tackles for the team over a period of 16 games.
While he hasn't played for a long time and was recently arrested, his professional career and salary make up for a substantial net worth of $5 million. His total career earnings are over $1 million, most of it coming from his time with the Chiefs.

In his debut year, Powe received a signing bonus of $78,680, earning a total of around $450 hundred thousand. In 2012, he also received a workout bonus worth $8,500. Overall, he earned $1,637,474 with the NFL.

After his sting with the Texans, the Washington Commanders had signed Powe in 2015. While he did play with the team, he was released before the regular season began.

As per reports, Powe, along with suspect Gavin Bates, kidnapped a man and forced him to withdraw money. The call came in from a man at Chase Bank on Highland Colony Pkwy in Ridgeland.
The reports added that the victim is currently safe. With the authorities still investigating, one will have to wait for the hearing to get an update. Photos of both Powe and Bates were shared via the authorities, and were eventually shared online through news outlets.
That being said, further details on Powe's attorney weren't available.
Furthermore, the former NFL player is at the detention center without bond and will have to wait for a hearing before any further action or decision will be taken. The hearing will be in Ridgeland, which is 12 miles from Jackson, Mississippi.
Powe, who has been out of the league for years, has not issued a statement of his own.
