It's been an up-and-down season for the Dallas Cowboys and coach Mike McCarthy. The Cowboys will miss the postseason for the first time since 2020 following their loss against the Commanders on Sunday.

With the Cowboys underperforming this season and in the postseason the last few years, McCarthy has been rumored to be on the hot seat. Many expected Dallas to make a potential coaching change if they didn't make the playoffs this year.

However, time after time, it sounds like Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will retain McCarthy after this season. Making his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones spoke about how proud he was of the coaching staff including McCarthy for the season they've been having.

"I can't tell you how proud I am of the way the coaching staff, led by Mike McCarthy, the way that the leadership on this team, and really proud of these young players," Jones said. "They just are growing mentally and physically by leaps and bounds, makes me think we've got and outstanding future ahead of us."

After coaching the Green Bay Packers from 2006-2018, Mike McCarthy was released by the Packers and took the 2019 season off.

After the Dallas Cowboys mutually agreed to part ways with then coach, Jason Garrett, they signed McCarthy to be their next head coach.

Dallas missed the playoffs in McCarthy's first season in 2020, as they finished 6-10. They would make the playoffs each of the next three seasons as they finished each season with a 12-5 record. They lost in the wildcard round twice and only made it to the divisional round once.

This season, they are 7-8 and have been eliminated from postseason contention. However, they have a chance of having a winning record. Considering they lost Dak Prescott for the season, Zack Martin, and have many other key injuries, the Cowboys have been decent.

The Cowboys have won four of their last five games, showing that they are still playing hard despite the down season. That shows McCarthy has the locker room won.
