On Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers traded up and drafted running back Jonathon Brooks with the 46th overall pick. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had earlier expressed his interest in drafting Brooks, but unfortunately for the NFC East franchise, the Panthers got their guy.
After the Panthers got Brooks, Cowboys fans on social media called out the team's owner and claimed that if he hadn't made their interest in the Texas running back public, then they might have gotten him.
Here's how fans on social media reacted:

"Jerry Jones can’t stfu now Carolina takes his RB", said one fan
After Tony Pollard's departure in free agency, running back was a position of need for the franchise, and they have now missed on arguably the best running back in the draft.
The Cowboys showed no urgency in this year's free agency, and the same has been in the draft. It will be interesting to see how Jerry Jones pivots from this situation as the fans are seemingly frustrated by him.
Jonathon Brooks could be a huge miss for the Cowboys
As mentioned earlier, Jonathon Brooks is arguably the best running back in this year's draft. Missing out on him could change the Cowboys' draft strategy, as they may be willing to wait for a running back until the third round.
As for the Panthers, Bryce Young gets another player who will make his life easier on the field. In his final year at Texas, Brooks rushed for 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns on 187 carries, averaging an impressive 6.1 yards per carry.
The Cowboys could now pivot to the likes of Trey Benson and Blake Corum. Jerry Jones' public admission of interest in the running back could prove to be very costly if Brooks turns out to be the player that many expect him to be.
