The New York Jets are considering the possibility of hiring Jon Gruden, a controversial Super Bowl-winning head coach, as per Frankie V. The Jets recently fired Robert Saleh and will be seeking a new head coach this offseason. Jeff Ulbrich is serving as the interim coach, but he is not expected to be promoted to the full-time position.

Reporters from the New York Post discussed the potential for the Jets to bring Gruden on board.

"I've been hearing Jon Gruden is a serious candidate to coach the Jets, maybe be President of football operations. He has close ties with the Jets, he's got close ties with Woody," Frankie V said.

Gruden hasn't coached in the NFL since 2021 when he resigned as the Las Vegas Raiders coach with a 3-2 record.

Gruden was the subject of controversy as the league uncovered emails the coach sent from 2011 to 2018 to then-Washington general manager Bruce Allen. Gruden allegedly used racist, misogynistic and homophobic slurs.

Jon Gruden is 117-112 as an NFL head coach and won the Super Bowl in 2002 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jets interim coach takes blame for loss

New York suffered a 31-6 blowout loss to the Arizona Cardinals to fall to 3-7 on the season. The loss all but ended playoff hopes.

"Overall after a long layoff there, they were not prepared to play," Jeff Ulbrich said, via SportingNews. "We didn't execute even close to our standard and that falls on my shoulders, 100 percent. I didn't do a good enough job getting these guys ready...
"I thought the physicality and effort was fine, that was not the issue," Ulbrich added. "It was execution, and that was in all three phases. Until we get that right, this thing will not turn."

The Jets had hopes of not only making the playoffs but potentially winning the Super Bowl. New York will return to the field on Sunday at home against the Indianapolis Colts.
