Woody Johnson may remain in America to oversee the New York Jets amidst one of their most turbulent periods. After Donald Trump's re-election as President of the United States, there had been rumors that he would reappoint the septuagenarian owner as Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

But those rumors are over, as CNN reported on Monday (as shared by ESPN's Rich Cimini) that billionaire investment banker Warren Stephens will be receiving the role.

NBC Sports' Mike Florio, however, believes that Johnson may still secure a different role within the Trump administration, meaning that he will have to cede daily operations of the Jets to his brother Christopher - a potentially welcome change amidst recent revelations of roster meddling that has hurt team chemistry and morale.

Jeff Bezos emerges as favorite to buy Jets from Woody Johnson

A major gripes of Jets fans about Woody Johnson is that he has lately been bad at overseeing the franchise, always being at the forefront of poor personnel decisions.

From lame-duck coaching and managerial hires to losing records (they are now on their record ninth), it is as if he has been unable to capture the initial hype and promise and turn it into something worthwhile.

However, change seems to be on the horizon. Sports betting site Bovada recently had Jeff Bezos as the favorite to buy the Jets:

This will not be the first time the founder of Amazon (whose Prime streaming platform airs "Thursday Night Football") has expressed interest in owning an NFL team.

In 2023, he had been pegged as the frontrunner to acquire the Washington Commanders from the embattled Dan Snyder, only to be outbid by Philadelphia 76ers head Josh Harris (as reported by the Financial Times that June).

In July this year, he sold more shares in Amazon, fueling rumors that he was planning a bid to purchase the Seattle Seahawks from the estate of late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.

The Washington Post, which he also owns, had said back in April:

"Other owners have expressed a desire for Bezos to buy a team. Bezos could get that opportunity if he pursues the Seattle Seahawks. That team is expected to be sold in the coming years. Bezos knows that Seattle is sitting there."

Ultimately, however, nothing came of Bezos' move.
