The New York Jets have a lot of work ahead of them as the offseason quickly approaches. Within the past two months, New York parted ways with head coach Robert Saleh and then general manager Joe Douglas. The hunt to replace both is now well and truly underway.

The organization will begin interviewing general manager candidates beginning this week. Due to NFL rules, any candidate who is still employed by an NFL team can't be interviewed until the season is over.

So, New York will start with two possible general manager candidates who don't currently have roles in the National Football League.

Former Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson and ESPN's Louis Riddick are at the top of the list as of now. According to ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter, both are expected to meet with New York Jets owner Woody Johnson this week.

The New York Jets hired 'The 33rd Team', a consulting firm led by former NFL general managers Mike Tannenbaum and Rick Spielman. Jon Robinson's tenure with the Tennessee Titans general manager was from 2016 until 2022 and the organization never had a losing season.

As for Louis Riddick, he worked in the front offices of the Washington Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles from 2001 until 2013.

Jets GM selection could influence head coaching hire

The new general manager of the New York Jets will no doubt have a say in the decision-making of the next head coach. With the news that Jon Robinson will be interviewed this week, that could be an indication that former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel may be a front runner as the next head coach.

Just last week, ESPN's Rick Cimini reported that Vrabel was interested in taking the job with New York but that it would depend on whom the general manager was.

“I talked to people who know very well, and he has told friends that he would consider the Jets as a possibility as long as he likes the GM that they pick. So he says he doesn't care what Belichick thinks. He'll judge the situation based on its own merit,” said ESPN's Rick Cimini.

Vrabel was hired by Robinson to be the head coach of the Tennessee Titans. During his six-year tenure, the Titans had a 54-45 record. Vrabel is currently a consultant with the Cleveland Browns.
