Former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson was recently invited to the show "The HERD with Colin Cowherd." During a segment, Johnson recalled an anecdote from his tenure as Cowboys head coach, involving owner Jerry Jones and Saudi Arabia's Prince Bandar.

Johnson remembered how he was once interrupted by Jones during a post-game conversation with the team. The game in question was against Chicago, near the end of the season, as the Cowboys had just become the best defense in the league.

However, this team meeting was interrupted by Jones, who barged in with his friend, a member of the Saudi royalty.

Cowherd opened the discussion by mentioning how chatty Jones has been over the last two weeks, especially following his team's defeat against the Lions. He then asked how Johnson managed to keep the buzz contained within the locker room during his tenure.

In response, Johnson shared the story involving Jones.

“And so I had a rule with the players, once I shut the door after the game, I’m talking to the team, and nobody could get in…”

However, the only exception to this rule was the big boss himself, Jerry Jones.

And I was just about ready to talk, and there’s a banging on the door of the locker room, and here comes Jerry with Prince Bandar and a whole entourage of people.” Johnson could only look at his boss and mutter a few words, saying, “Nice game. I’ll see you Tuesday.

Johnson later went on to win back-to-back Super Bowls for the Cowboys before his infamous termination. This event not only marked the beginning of the Cowboys’ decline but also left a rift between Johnson and Jones.

Jimmy Johnson vs. Jerry Jones

The 81-year-old coach was at the peak of his career during his time with the Cowboys. When he joined forces with Jones, the Cowboys were unstoppable. However, Jones’ alleged growing interference, as he tried to be a hybrid of owner, manager and coach, led to problems.

As Johnson refused to cede control, a cold war ensued, ultimately costing Johnson his job. Although Jones found success again with his next hire, Barry Switzer, fans believe Johnson would have served the franchise better if he had stayed.

Recently, Jones somewhat acknowledged his mistakes regarding Johnson’s departure. Last year, he even agreed to add Johnson to the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor — a gesture to amend the wrongs that took place decades ago.
