With the 2024 NFL season right around the corner, Jerry Jones addressed the media to discuss the Dallas Cowboys' future, making some surprising comments along the way. Speaking about extending players and why it is wise to do so, the Cowboys owner compared himself to Kansas City Chiefs star QB Patrick Mahomes on Thursday.
"I have, in my life, played option quarterback so many times. I have run that ball and kept it and not handed it off to the back. I have run that thing all the way out to the sideline before I made the decision.
"So what we're dealing with, is [that] we're buying time. We're option quarterbacking and we're going up to the sidelines. We haven't handed it off. We haven't pitched it. That sounds like Mahomes to you? It do. It really do."

NFL fans found the comparison out of touch, with many likening him to Joe Biden.
"The Joe Biden of NFL owners"
"Jerry Biden," a fan said.
"LMAO JERRY YOU ARE NOT LIKE PATRICK," another user added.
Most fans wanted Jones to know that they don't believe he was doing a good job, asking him to step down while he could.
"Bro gotta give it up man," a user noted.
"Bro thinks he’s good at his job," one fan said.
One fan even urged him to sell the team:
"He needs to sell the team."
Jerry Jones doesn't believe this will be Dak Prescott's final year with the Dallas Cowboys
With the Cowboys training camp underway, fans continue to ask questions about QB Dak Prescott's future with the team. Though Prescott's contract extension is still pending, Jerry Jones remains confident about the QB's time in Dallas.
"I do not think that this will be his last year with Cowboys at all," Jones told reporters on Thursday. "It's pretty clear, I think. I won't to say it if it hadn't been clear of how much we appreciate what Dak Prescott has meant to this team in a positive way, and that players do play better when he's out there."
Furthermore, Jerry Jones highlighted Prescott's positive impact on the team, noting that not only does Prescott help the players play better, but he also raises them to a higher level. That being said, there has been no official news about Prescott agreeing to a contract extension with the team.
