Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals kept their playoff hopes alive with a hard-fought 30-24 win over the Denver Broncos in Week 17. However, they still need a lot of help in Week 18. They need to upstage the Pittsburgh Steelers and hope the New York Jets beat the Miami Dolphins and the Broncos lose to the Kansas City Chiefs.

While it remains to be seen if they make the playoffs, the Bengals even having a chance in Week 18 is nothing short of a miracle. They have the fourth-worst defense in the league and their kicking game has been horrendous. Evan McPherson has converted only 72.7% of his field goal attempts, which ranks 37th in the league.

Burrow and the offense are why Cincinnati is still in the playoff hunt. The quarterback has been exceptional this season and leads the league in passing yards and touchdowns. Many believe he should be the MVP but it seems improbable.

While Burrow may not take home the coveted prize for his efforts this year, he's confident he will win it. When asked about his odds of being named the MVP during his media availability on Tuesday, the Bengals superstar downplayed his chances. He said:

Joe Burrow stats: QB has been lights out in 2024

Joe Burrow has put up remarkable numbers this season. He has 4,641 passing yards with 42 touchdowns and eight interceptions. His 76.7 quarterback rating ranks second in the league behind Lamar Jackson (78.0) and his 109.8 passer rating is only bettered by the Ravens superstar (121.6) and Jared Goff (113.6).

Burrow became the fourth quarterback in NFL history to have ten games in a season with 250 passing yards and three touchdowns. He joined Tom Brady (2007), Peyton Manning (2013), and Patrick Mahomes (2018) in achieving the feat. All three went on to win the MVP award.

If Burrow throws for three touchdowns in the Bengals' season finale against the Steelers, he'll finish the year with 45 touchdown passes. He will become only the second quarterback after Drew Brees not to win the coveted prize despite throwing 45 touchdown passes. The Saints icon threw 46 in 2011 but finished second in the MVP race behind Aaron Rodgers, who had 45.

Burrow's historic campaign will likely not even yield a playoff appearance for the Bengals and cost him what would have been a well-deserved MVP award win.
