It's almost fantasy football season, which means players like Joe Mixon will need to be on your radar. With drafts coming up, it is vital to know when and where he should be drafted. The new member of the Houston Texans will likely be a popular name come draft night, but it's important not to overdraft and to know what to expect from him.
Here's what you need to know.

Joe Mixon's 2024 fantasy outlook
In 2023, Joe Mixon was the 17th overall player in fantasy, according to Pro Football Reference. He scored 215 fantasy points, which put him just ahead of Jordan Love and Breece Hall and below Derrick Henry and D.J. Moore.

That kind of production likely won't be replicated. It's a new team and a new system, but it's also evident that Mixon was overperforming. The running back's peripherals weren't that great, and he's due for some regression to the mean.
Fortunately, the mean for Mixon is still a very good running back. The move from Joe Burrow's passing offense to C.J. Stroud's passing offense is probably mostly a lateral one, so it's not as if he will have more or less opportunities in all likelihood.
The offensive lines are pretty similar in quality, too. It's worth noting that Devin Singletary did well when given the reins in Houston, and Mixon has a higher pedigree than him. That could bode well for his performance this year with a new team.
Is Joe Mixon a good pick in fantasy football this year?
Joe Mixon is a good pick in fantasy football. Reliable running backs can be hard to come by. What Mixon has going for him is that he is not an unattainable player like Christian McCaffrey, Nick Chubb, or someone like that.
The added benefit is that he won't be drafted that high, which makes him a useful player to get a little later on in the draft. If you don't want to or aren't able to realistically spend a first- or second-round pick on an RB, Mixon is the kind of guy who's waiting down the line to fill the void with a solid player who won't cost as much.

He's also been quite productive for the most part during his career. It wasn't always elite in Cincinnati, but he was always reliable and good if not great. That kind of reliability is important in fantasy football where things can be so volatile year after year.
Where players like Raheem Mostert will undoubtedly get overdrafted trying to recapture the magic, players like Mixon are available and will give you generally the same production. Instead of chasing highs and getting lows, you can have a medium player that won't throw up duds.
Where should you draft the Bengals RB this year?
This question ultimately depends on what happens in your draft. If the running backs are falling off the board quickly, you might have to overdraft or risk taking someone who just won't pan out much later in the draft.

Joe Mixon is being drafted around pick 45. If he's in that range, it's safe to pick him. Our analyzer tool suggests another player in this range who might be better, though: Breece Hall. So, be sure to weigh all options before picking anyone.
He is being drafted in roughly the same place on fantasy sites now, though data is limited for the time being. He's being taken as the 16th running back off the board, which may be a lower ADP than he should be at, so keep an eye on how things go in your fantasy draft.
