John Elway was the general manager of the Denver Broncos from 2012 to 2020. The franchise won five straight AFC West titles and a Super Bowl during that span. Unfortunately, the Broncos haven't had the same success since then.

The Kansas City Chiefs have won the AFC West every year since the Broncos won the Super Bowl and have had tremendous success under Andy Reid. Patrick Mahomes is undoubtedly the best quarterback in the league, and after having already won three Super Bowls, his team is well-positioned to win a lot more in the future.

Elway presented the Lombardi Trophy to the Chiefs after they won the Super Bowl earlier this year in Las Vegas. The legendary Broncos quarterback recently made an appearance on the Pardon My Take podcast and said that Andy Reid has been an unsung hero during the team's success.

He was asked whether he was 'mad' after presenting the Chiefs with the Lombardi Trophy after Super Bowl LVIII, to which Elway replied:

“I wasn’t mad... I was really pulling for John Lynch who’s a good buddy. Kyle [Shanahan] was running around our practices when he was younger when Mike [Shanahan] was with the Broncos. Just the affinity for those guys and they’d been there before and lost one. So, I was really pulling for them, it was such a tight game.
“To me, Andy Reid is one of the unsung heroes as far as a head coach and the credit he gets. He’s had a tremendous amount of success everywhere he’s been. I think we see that with Kansas City now, especially with what he’s done with Patrick.”

Andy Reid is quickly climbing up the ranks of the greatest head coaches of all time. If the Chiefs three-peat as Super Bowl champions this upcoming season, he will have a real argument to claim Bill Belichick's throne, as Reid has had success with multiple quarterbacks, unlike in Belichick's case.

The Denver Broncos released Russell Wilson this offseason and are carrying $85 million in cap hit. As a result, they are unlikely to be a contending team this year.

However, John Elway and the Broncos fans will be looking forward to seeing how Bo Nix, their rookie quarterback, plays this year. Sean Payton now has a quarterback that he personally agreed upon, and it will be interesting to see how the team's offense looks this year.

As for the Chiefs, they are the joint favorites to win the Super Bowl this year, and the Patrick Mahomes-led team will likely win their ninth straight division title this year.
