Jordan Love set to hold out in training camp over pending multi-million Packers contract extension

Green Bay Packers OTA Offseason Workout
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love won't be practicing with the team until he has signed a contract extension.

Jordan Love led the Green Bay Packers to the divisional round of the NFC playoffs in his first season as the starting quarterback. The Packers are looking forward to building on that momentum and find more success in 2024. That may be a bit harder now that Love is officially a hold out.

The quarterback notified the Green Bay Packers that he would not be practicing with the team during training camp until he signs a contract extension.

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst confirmed this stand while speaking with the media on Monday morning. Gutekunst also expressed his confidence that both sides were close to a deal.

“I feel we’re close” - Brian Gutekunst.

Gutekunst said that a contract extension could be finalized in just a few days but no time table is guaranteed with a big contract.

The Packers general manager also clarified that Jordan Love has reported to the team and is taking part in meetings. He is just staying off the practice field until the deal is done.

In his first season as a starter in 2023, Love led the Packers to a 9-8 record and a playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round. During the regular season, he threw for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Jordan Love promised to help Josh Jacobs avoid a depressing record

When Jordan Love gets back to the field, he will be looking forward to working with a new teammate, Josh Jacobs. In fact, he already has a plan to help Jacobs avoid an abysmal record that he is inching towards.

The running back has made a career for himself in the run game but he has also been a valuable target in the passing game.

Jacobs currently has 197 receptions in his NFL career, however, he has never recorded a receiving touchdown. The record for most receptions without a touchdown is 201 and is held by Gerald Riggs.

During a recent 'Q&A' with Bleacher Report, the Green Bay Packers quarterback said that he plans to help Jacobs and has told the running back that he will do so:

"I said, ‘Bro, we’re going to get you a touchdown, for sure’. First pass to him might be a touchdown, who knows? We’re gonna see. What is he, five receptions away from it? We’ll make sure he gets a touchdown in there.”

Josh Jacobs is the only current player in the National Football League with at least 100 receptions without a touchdown.
