In 2021, Josh Allen signed a six-year $258 million contract extension with the Buffalo Bills, the second-highest annual average value in the NFL. But now, Allen no longer holds that place as a slew of quarterbacks have passed the Bills star in recent years.

According to Over The Cap, Allen ranks 13th with his $43 million annual average value. However, he is still a top-five quarterback in the NFL. With his salary status falling and his game elevating, Allen was asked if he feels underpaid and his thoughts on all the other quarterbacks ahead of him.

"Listen, everyone's going to have their day," Allen said to Nick Veronica of News 4 Buffalo. "I'm happy that everyone's getting what they're worth, right? And I think that as the game progresses and guys keep getting paid again. The market is the market. I've got no problem with where I'm at right now."

Josh Allen's total contract value of $258 million places him in sixth position and his $100 million fully guaranteed money places him 11th, via Over The Cap.

Josh Allen expounds on 'underpaid' debate over his Bills contract

Josh Allen is scheduled to be paid $95 million over the next three seasons, according to Spotrac. There are 19 NFL players who will be earning more than the Buffalo Bills quarterback through 2026. Some of these include Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa and Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones.

Allen is confident that the money talks will take care of itself down the road and his job right now is to play football to his best ability.

"You know, I had my day a couple years ago, and I'm sure someday I'll have it again, you know. But I think the main thing is the main thing, and it's playing football to the best of my ability, and everything else will take care of itself."

Allen's comments resembled that of Patrick Mahomes, who also addressed the 'underpaid' debate a few weeks back. While the two quarterbacks' contract numbers vary, they've been passed financially by quarterbacks with lesser accomplishments.

"I know every time a contract comes up, everybody looks at my APY (average per year) and everything like that," Mahomes said about being underpaid. ... "For me, it’s just about going out there trying to win football games, trying to make money for my family at the end of the day. I feel like I’m doing a great job of that."

Josh Allen has finished in the top five of the NFL MVP voting in three of the last four years. The Buffalo Bills have made five consecutive postseason runs so it will be interesting to see if his contract does get looked it in the near future.
