Julian Edelman calls for Bill Belichick's unretirement amid former coach's multiple media jobs

After mutually parting ways with the New England Patriots as their head coach, Bill Belichick remained without a head coaching job following the off-season. No team asked Belichick to become their next head coach, forcing him out of the NFL for this upcoming season.

While many pondered what Belichick's next move would be or if he would get back into coaching, he's become a big media star since. The former coach partnered with Underdog for an upcoming series titled Coach. This comes after he said he would appear weekly on Eli and Peyton Manning's Monday night broadcast, "ManningCast," and daily appearances on the Pat McAfee Show.

While he's out of coaching, one of Belichick's former wide receivers, Julian Edelman, is pushing for Belichick to return to coaching next season. Edelman thinks Belichick still has some fire to coach and could learn different things this year, analyzing the game as a broadcaster/analyst.

"I do think Bill wants to get back into coaching," Edelman said on Herd w/Colin Cowherd on Friday. "I think this is a great thing for him to have a year off because we go into the offseason, he always talks about self-scout. If he practices, what he preaches in his coaching career, then he's gonna get better, because he's gonna realize certain things that he probably would have done differently, so and it gives you a perspective when you get to seek be out for a year and see it."

"He still has some gas in the tank where he can still go out and do things because he's a coach. He's a great teacher, so I do believe he's going to be back in the league."

Many were surprised to see Belichick not land a coaching gig. He's one of the winningest coaches in NFL history and was a hot head-coaching candidate this past off-season.

While Bill Belichick had interest from the Atlanta Falcons and was interested in joining their coaching staff, nothing ultimately happened. Some thought that Belichick not landing a job as a head coach this off-season meant he might be done coaching.

However, NFL insider Tom Pelissero claimed the opposite. Last month, appearing on the Rich Eisen Show, Pelissero said that Belichick has plans to coach next year in 2025.

“Bill Belichick intends to coach in 2025," Pelissero said. "He’s staying engaged in the game. He’s now going to be on Inside the NFL. We’ve seen him showing up to different events at the Manning Passing Academy."

From now until 2025, Belichick will be busy with his media gigs. He may decide to stay in the media role after this season, but only Belichick knows or will know.

If Belichick doesn't return to coaching, he will retire with six Super Bowl championships, a three-time AP NFL Coach of the Year, and a 333-178 overall record. He will be in Canton, Ohio, in the Football Hall of Fame one day soon.
