The Pittsburgh Steelers might face an unexpected situation with Russell Wilson after the starting quarterback started dealing with a calf issue. Week 1 duel is around the corner and after being named the starter for the season, Wilson could miss the game against the Atlanta Falcons on September 8.
NFL insider Ari Meirov reports that Wilson was limited in practice today after dealing with calf tightness. Mike Tomlin added that the former Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos will be re-evaluated on Friday.

Steelers fans didn't take this kindly and were quick to express their opinions on social media. One found it hysterical that Justin Fields, after all, could start the season as the starting QB.

Others joked about Fields' reaction to this news.
A group of fans joked about the Steelers' offensive line, Wilson's age and the fact that Fields can have this chance even after he was named QB2.
"I’d be scared to start behind that OL too 🤣🤣🤣," one fan joked.
"Fields doing all he can to be the starter. By any means necessary it seems," another fan said.
"Father Time always on time," one fan said.
NFL insider said Justin Fields would get the Steelers' starting job during the season
The Pittsburgh Steelers had a tumultuous 2023 NFL season, having Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubinski and Mason Rudolph as their quarterbacks. None of them could make an impact on a team that was swept from the field by the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round.
They got two guys to upgrade their options, but according to SI's Albert Breer, Fields would be given the starting job over Wilson midway through the season.
"If the coaches think it’s close, and they do, and there’s doubt with each guy, it’s logical to give yourself two shots at getting the most important position on the field right. It’s much easier, for obvious reasons, to go from Wilson to Fields at midseason than it would be the other way around."
These two men come from similar backgrounds, as they could never establish themselves as the go-to guys in the Chicago Bears (Fields) and Denver Broncos (Wilson). They were ultimately traded to Pittsburgh to work with Tomlin and Arthur Smith.
Ever since Ben Roethlisberger retired, the Steelers have been trying to find a fitting replacement. However, their bad choices have taken them to this point and fans want to see something different.
