The Kansas City Chiefs have turned a lot of heads with their recent contract extension. The back-to-back Super Bowl champions agreed to a three-year, $19.5 million contract extension with Noah Gray ahead of the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
Gray is coming off his best season regarding targets (41), receiving yards (305) and touchdowns (2), which is solid considering who he's playing behind, Travis Kelce.
This situation seemingly sounded the alarm for the team's fans, who started speculating about the real reason behind this decision. Some fans started wondering if this means Travis Kelce's career is coming to an end.

"Does this mean Kelce is on his way to retirement?" one fan questioned.
"Kelce starts one podcast and they make his backup the highest paid second string TE in the league just incase 😭," another fan said.
"Times up for 87?? Many are asking," another fan wrote.
Others were happy about it, noting that Gray does a lot of work that people don't notice and that should be rewarded.
"He is the kind of guy that does all the dirty work and doesn’t get credit for it. Great deal. He really started turning it on receiving last year," one fan said.
Patrick Mahomes, Rob Gronkowski react to Travis Kelce's life outside of the Chiefs
Travis Kelce reached a new level of popularity last season after he attended a Taylor Swift concert and shot his shot with the pop singer. They started hanging out before entering a relationship that prompted Swift to attend multiple Chiefs' games and attract plenty of fans.
Many have criticized the excessive attention paid to Swift, but Patrick Mahomes isn't having any of that, shutting down the notion that her being around was a distraction for the team.
"People act like it was a distraction, I was like, 'No, this is just Travis, Man!'" Mahomes said.
On a similar note, another future Hall of Fame tight end, Rob Gronkowski, lauded Kelce for finding a balance between being under the Hollywood spotlight and his NFL career. Gronk said in an exclusive interview with US Weekly:
"Travis Kelce has shown that the off-the-field stuff has not affected his game on the field. In the last two years, he has won the Super Bowl. How can you say it’s affected him when he’s a Super Bowl champion over the last two years and a three-time champion overall?”
Travis Kelce, Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs are ready to start defending their championship tonight against a dangerous Ravens team.
