Speculation has been rife about who'd become the new Dallas Cowboys coach after they surprisingly parted ways with Mike McCarthy earlier this week. There are no concrete reports about who the franchise is targeting to take over as the new coach. However, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has been touted as one of the candidates to be interviewed in the coming weeks.

The 36-year-old spent three seasons with the Cowboys as a player before becoming their quarterbacks coach in 2018. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2019, a role he spent three years in. Moore's history with the franchise has made him a prime candidate to be its new coach, but he isn't thinking about the move just yet.

During his media availability on Tuesday, the Eagles OC played down the prospect of him interviewing for the role while the Eagles are still in the playoffs. He said that his sole focus is Philadelphia's divisional-round game against the Los Angeles Rams. Moore said:

“I spent a lot of time there, eight years there, so (I) have plenty of relationships in that place. I love it here. I’ve had so much fun here.

"It’s been a really fun process, and we’re in a really special situation right now, getting the chance to play this Sunday, having a chance to make a run at this thing, and that’s really all you worry about. Everything else is what it is, and we’ll see where it takes you.”

Deion Sanders to Cowboys: Hall of Famer responds to team's interest in hiring him

While Kellen Moore is rumored to be a candidate, the only coach Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has reached out to so far is Colorado Buffaloes' Deion Sanders.

The Hall of Famer confirmed via NFL insider Adam Schefter that Jones had called him to gauge his interest in ditching college football for the NFL. However, he suggested that Sanders politely turned his offer down. Sanders said in a statement:

"To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing. I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”

With the two-time Super Bowl champion not keen on joining the Cowboys, Moore's odds of getting the job have strengthened.

However, Jones and the front office will have to move quickly if they intend to lure him back to Dallas, as he has interviews lined up with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New Orleans Saints.
