Kirk Cousins’ wife Julie bids goodbye to last batch of Vikings merchandise after settling in Atlanta

Kirk Cousins has been acclimatizing himself to Atlanta as he prepares for life as a Falcon. He has been attending Braves games, moving stuff to his new home, and visiting various landmarks.

But his wife Julie seemed to be struggling to move on, having cherished the days when he was still a Minnesota Viking. Case in point: she still had plenty of Minnesotan memorabilia at her house, including a pair of Vikings-themed gloves and a rosary with a silver map of Minnesota attached to it.

On Tuesday, she revealed that she was giving the final batch of Vikings stuff to the family of Vikings long snapper Andrew DePaola:

"Feeling emo about sending the last box of Vikings goodies we've found in the move to @amyvdepaola. ENJOY!," Julie Cousins wrote.

Julie also included an envelope addressed to Andrew's wife Amy inside the box. Perhaps it's a thank-you note for the DePaolas for agreeing to take on the last of the Cousins' Minnesota-themed things.

Before she got married, Julie was a grade school teacher. And according to her, she will be homeschooling their sons Cooper and Turner. She also wants to take her sons to Monday and Thursday night games (there are provisionally three of them on the Falcons' schedule) - a family night, as she inferred when speaking with Atlanta magazine:

“Now we get to actually do life with family.”

2024 will mark a decade since the Cousins couple were married, and they plan to celebrate it by dancing to "Young, Dumb and in Love". Julie adds:

“When I come back here, I thrive. Just feeling the support, knowing I can call my parents and they’re there to help if I need them. It’s just different being home.”

There is a sense of irony in part of the song's title. Kirk Cousins is no longer "young" and "dumb"; he is entering his 13th season in the NFL, with almost all his teammates being around a decade younger than him. But for him, it is nothing to be ashamed of:

“...It is a positive, I think, where I can come in and have ownership and assert myself, and lead in a way that they’re really listening, as opposed to when I was the younger player,” Kirk Cousins said.

The Falcons' preseason begins this Friday at the Miami Dolphins.
