The injury occurred on the final play of the first quarter. Lamar Jackson was sacked by Jonathan Cooper from the Broncos' defense on a third-down play, forcing the Ravens to punt. The first quarter of the game expired following the sack, with Jackson leaving the field shortly after.
Jackson never returned in the second quarter of the game as backup quarterback Tyler Huntley officially replaced him, at least temporarily. Huntley filled in for Jackson for the entire second quarter, bringing the Ravens to halftime. The Ravens officially announced that Jackson will not be returning for the second half of the game while his knee is further examined.
The Ravens are likely disappointed that Jackson is unable to return to the game. But it is much more important that their superstar quarterback avoids a catastrophic diagnosis. If he's forced to miss extended time, it would be a devastating blow to their remaining outlook for the 2022 NFL season.
Lamar Jackson's 2022 NFL season
Lamar Jackson is having an incredible 2022 NFL season so far, as he usually does. He entered Week 13 ranked in the top ten in the NFL in passing touchdowns and the top 20 in passing yards. He ranks second among quarterbacks in rushing yards inside the top 12 among all players in the same statistical category. He is clearly one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league.
Jackson's dominant performances from the quarterback position are a huge reason why the Ravens are among the best teams in the NFL this year. They entered Week 13 with a solid 7-4 record, while currently leading the standings in the AFC North division.
