Julian Edelman was in the commentary booth for the Week 2 preseason game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints. While it's still football, the analysis during a preseason game is often different due to the uncompetitive nature of the games being played.

This means that other subjects around the NFL often come into discussion, especially in the second half of the games when backups are already on the field. This is exactly what happened during the FOX broadcast of the 49ers-Saints game, with Julian Edelman deviating to talk about Lamar Jackson.

The former NFL wide receiver, who played with Tom Brady and won three rings - thus knows a thing or two about winning - was critical of the Ravens quarterback. According to Edelman, he needs to play better in the playoffs, especially as it was the second time that Baltimore lost the conference as the #1 seed with Lamar on the roster:

“Lamar Jackson’s been on a milk carton in the playoffs. He’s been missing.”

Although he was the league MVP in 2023 and is one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL, Lamar Jackson has a 2-4 record in the playoffs. He did win a game in 2023 against the Houston Texans, but he couldn't lead his team to beat Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the conference championship.

For this reason, the former wide receiver picked the Chiefs to complete the three-peat and win the Super Bowl again.

Edelman addresses Brandon Aiyuk's situation

Since the 49ers were playing in the game, the former Patriots superstar was also asked about his take on Brandon Aiyuk's current situation. As the wide receiver is still on hold-in due to a contract dispute, Edelman gave his view that, if it was up to him, the best option would be to stay where he was.

"If I was Brandon Aiyuk, I would be at San Francisco Week 1. They haven't won a Super Bowl yet, but everyone is trying to get paid. If they can have the mental toughness to do what's best for the team, I'm just telling you, there's a jackpot at the end of the rainbow"

Aiyuk is currently in the final year of his rookie deal, but he and the 49ers still haven't reached an agreement on an extension.
